I have always wanted to paint but ended up studying for a degree in Ceramics at the Central [now Central St Martins College of Art]
It was only when I stopped my full time job as an Art teacher in 2002 that I began to paint seriously. So although I had an Art school training you could say I am a self taught painter and over the past 20 years you can see my style evolving as I tried out and am still experimenting with different styles, materials and techniques.
My recent series of paintings are inspired by flowers and plants I have grown. As you can see I love colour!!
In the Carousel paintings I tried to capture the movement and bright lights of the Fairground. Some of my first paintings were inspired by reflections in the canals in Venice. When I had finished that set of work reflections of a couple of colourful working boats captured in the clear water of the canal outside my house on an icy February day led to the striped tiller paintings.
Most of my paintings are acrylic or oil on canvas. I like to work in themes. Three themes can be seen in the gallery... STRIPED TILLER, paintings based on the reflections of a working boat. in the Kennet and Avon canal. CAROUSEL, paintings inspired by Fairground Carousels and SECRET GARDENS a theme which has evolved into GARDEN FIREWOKS paintings inspired mostly by plants I am growing in my garden.
